Newtype USA October 2004 pg 33. How to make a king Being called a doofus by one of the most attractive people in the world is enough to get any guy down, even if said knockout is actually another male who also happens to be your accidental fiancé (Yuri's been having all sorts of problems with the "local customs" lately). The poor boy's ego took a big enough hit when he was flushed down the toilet and into another world where they wanted to crown him Demon King. He really doesn't need Wolfram's words shattering his self-esteem any further. Yuri may need to chant a few self-help mantras, but there are times when an (almost) majestic aura surrounds him. The sight of injustice whips him into a fury, triggering his demon king mode. So don't make him angry. Trust us, you wouldn't want to face him in a fit of rage. "I'm careful to portray the gap between the Yuri Shibuya people normally see and the Demon King inside him," says Yuri's voice actor, Takahiro Sakurai. "He doesn't have any memory of the time he spends in Demon King mode, which means I have to be even more careful. I use all sorts of tricks like changing my intonation and lowering my voice till it's almost scary in order to make him sound more solemn. I mean, he is a Demon King, so a voice that scares people seems just about right!" But Yuri doesn't seem to have any of the normal kingly attributes like strength or cunning. The only things he really has going for him are his aptitude for baseball and a slightly overdeveloped sense of justice. How do you turn a guy like that into a king? Maybe people like Wolfram and Josak are the key. Their sharp words and harsh treatment might be just what Yuri needs to rid himself of his doofusness and become a decent ruler. If they keep at it, they may make a man of him yet!
