  Site FAQ

Where can I find the Kyoh Kara Maoh! anime on DVD?

This is a tricky one.

For North America: The Kyoh Kara Maoh! anime WAS licensed by Geneon, and fifteen discs were released in North America. However, in September 2007, Geneon ceased all anime distribution in North America. Thus, the official status of the Kyoh Kara Maoh! anime in North America is that it is now UNLICENSED, even though fifteen (out-of-print) DVDs are still floating around out there on the market. Those fifteen DVDs do NOT contain all 78 episodes of the first two anime series, unfortunately. However, if you know where to look, fansubs of all 78 episodes are out there on the internet.

For Australia and New Zealand: Madman has licensed and is distributing the first two seasons of Kyoh Kara Maoh! on bilingual DVD.

As far as I'm aware, neither the OAV series, nor the third season of the television anime, have been licensed for distribution in any English-speaking country. But fansubs are out there, if you know where to look.

But the above paragraphs just cover English-language releases. The Kyoh Kara Maoh! anime is available in many languages, in both official DVD releases, and fansubs. Just sniff around the internet, the anime isn't that hard to find.

What about the manga or the original novels?

Both the manga and the original Maruma novels are licensed for an English translation by Tokyopop. You can find them anywhere that Tokyopop books are sold.

Where do you buy the magazines that you scan?

It's easy to find magazines like Animage, Animedia, Asuka, and Newtype on the web, even if you don't live in Japan. First, however, I would check to see if you live anywhere near a Japanese import bookstore like Kinokuniya, which always carries the latest issues of each magazine. Barring that, you will have to order magazines through online retailers such as CDJapan, Sasugabooks.com, AnimeNation.com, Akadot Retail, or AnimeGamersUSA.com. Several of those stores also offer monthly subscriptions to certain magazines, so you never have to worry about missing an issue.

Where can I buy other merchandise like soundtracks, clearfiles, stickers, or whatever?

JPQueen, Akadot Retail, and CDJapan are good places to start searching for soundtracks or other Maruma collectible merchandise.

Could you please translate the Japanese magazine articles on this site?

No, sorry. I don't have the time or the inclination. But trust me when I say that... Those Japanese anime magazine articles really aren't that interesting in the first place. You know those inane little articles you'll find accompanying the pretty illustrations in Newtype USA? Yeah, those are pretty close translations from the original Japanese articles. So really, you aren't missing much.

Can I use the images from this website for wallpapers/avatars/layouts/my own gallery?

Yes, please go ahead - that's what these images are here for! All I ask is that you please give credit and a link back to this site if you use an image scanned by me, or appropriate credit to the original scanner if the image was scanned by someone else.
